Capstan History.
Don Paullin founded Capstan Incorporated in 1956. Pictured right is an original drawing from 1964 showing his Capstan Permaflow sintered filter innovation to the world. In 1981, Mark Paullin, Gen 2 joined Capstan and the company purchased Kwikset Locks the same year. In 1987, Capstan Inc. purchased SinterMetals and renamed this to Capstan Atlantic. Remington PM in Hazen, Arkansas was acquired in 1993, named Capstan Inland before being sold in 1997 to family members in the industry. Capstan Mexico was established in 1996 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Caterpillar PM division was acquired in 2004 becoming Capstan Tennessee for a decade. In 2013, Christian Paullin, Gen 3 joined Capstan California and Capstan Tennessee was sold. After the Capstan Inland and Tennessee sales, Capstan purchased Melling Sintered Metals in Oklahoma and Chapin Paullin, Gen 3 joined during the acquisition process. Capstan Atlantic was turned over to employees as an ESOP in 2023 and renamed Atlantic Sintered Metals. Family owned and operated for over 70 years of leadership in the powder metal industry.

The company principally operates through its three manufacturing locations – Capstan California (Los Angeles), Capstan Permaflow (Los Angeles), and Capstan Mexico (Guadalajara) – with each location specializing in different segments of the PM industry.
